SEO - A hidden Trap with Cold Fusion

Web developers who do web site design using cold fusion should know about this possibility. I recently ran a link checker on one of my sites.

What I saw was amazing. The tool decided that the site had 84 broken links on the front page alone, and that all 84 were links to Members Login. When I removed the one members login link and reran the report, no broken links were reported. This was keeping me from getting listed at all on Google and other engines. I put another page in between the link and it’s real destination and shortly the report showed no broken links, and I was able to get the site listed on the engines. Web developers who do web site design using cold fusion should know about this possibility.

The search engine just looped on the index page until it timed out at 84. That disqualified me from placement on all engines.

First Run with MSN Tool shows 84 broken links on the Site. An investigation with MSN's robot shows that the Search Engine Robot is looping on the Fusebox index page.

After the one and only link to the page was removed, the Robot saw no broken links.

The solution was to put a new html page between the page and the member log in so that the broken links did not appear on the home page or main pages. Search engine placement rose from there.
