Once you create a Google account you will be
asked to download a small program that allows you to upload
video to Google's server. You then log into the server and add
descriptions and keywords for each video you have sent up. There
is a short period while the video is being approved before it
goes live, usually just a few minutes.
You are also allowed to sell video to others
and to choose wherther or not to allow people to download your
video or use it on other sites.
Acceptable File Formats:
The best way to get your videos included
in Google Video beta is to submit each file in their preferred
format, which is Mpeg4. However they accept video in AVI, ASF,
QuickTime, WMV and MPEG formats, however, they currently do
not accept Flash files. (Specific
video codecs they accept include H.264, H.263, MPEG 1/2/4 and
motion JPEG.)
I have found that they have no problems
with windows media files like .wmv's and post them quickly.
Google video beta video quality guidelines:
Please upload the best quality file you
have available. Their servers are very good and can handle it.
I prefer a high quality wmv around 400x300, but they will take
720x480 AVI's if you want. For content originating from cell
phones, webcams, etc., upload your file as is.
For content originating from a DV camera
or other high quality source, we recommend encoding at full-frame
size and a high bit rate (you won't go wrong with interlaced
MPEG2 at >5Mbps and 720x480 or 720x576 resolution).
System requirements for the Google Video
Uploader?
You must be operating
on Windows 98 or higher, Mac 10.3 or higher, or any OS that
has Java 1.4.1 or higher in order to install the Uploader. Youl
need a broadband connection to upload video.
